Day 4 :: What am I Afraid of?

No! I am definitely not afraid of zombies. Ha! I tricked you.
(Image found via Google Images by searching 'zombie')
Only a few things come to mind when arranging a fear list in my mind. Perhaps I'm not as scaredy as I thought. Here's my short list.
  • THE DARK. Definitely afraid of the dark.
  • Snakes. I will not go into any more detail. It will cause nightmares.
  • Unmarked White Work Vans. They are obviously there to work on something. Not putting a name or any indicating marks on their vehicle makes them sneaky, and sneaky white vans freak me out.
  • Censoring or suppressing my children.
  • Growing up to be one of those grumpy old ladies afraid of change and new things.
  • Sinkholes.
  • Getting obese.
  • Unsafe drivers.
Not so scaredy, huh? I think I've heard someone say that all fears are irrational, but looking at my list, I'm thinking mine are all pretty rational. What do you think?

31 Day Blog Challenge

I learned about this 31 Day Blog Challenge on Katie Ferry's blog The Lovely Life and clicked through to see it originated from Boy Oh Boy. After 3 days of pondering and contemplating whether or not I can commit to such a thing, I think today is the day I'm jumping in. Here I go.

And I'm going to catch up, too. :)

Day 1: Introduction and Recent Photo

Zoie and me. She's a snuggler.
Hello, welcome to my blog and thanks for stopping by!

I am Tabi, I'm 29ish and a proud stay at home Mom.  I worked full time up until I had Zoie in September 2010, so I'm sort of newish at the SAHM gig, but I'm rocking it. I have a superhero husband (Christopher) and 3 1/2 beautiful children: Roxy (6), Riley/The Bear (4), Zoie (just about 20 months) and Cameron (my stepson, 10 minus 8 days).

I blog about my family, mostly, but also my hopes, dreams, crazy thoughts, happenings in our life and what keeps me happy. I have a recurring Five Things That Make Me Happy Friday post and sometimes I post Parent Tips. I like lists and Instagram pictures. (Follow me on Instagram, I'm tabid. )

I started this blog as a way to put more emphasis on the positive things in my life and also as a way to record and remember these happenings as my memory is super crappy. A bonus is it helps me keep in touch with far away family, I moved to Florida from Maryland when I was 19 and miss my family and dear friends bunches. What I didn't realize when I started this blog was how cathartic blogging is. That, to date, is my most favorite blogging surprise.

Day 2: 20 Facts About Me

A list! What fun!!
  1. I'm late for everything... everything.
  2. I love yoga and working out.
  3. We are Nooby Veganish people. Really, we are vegetarians, but my son has a milk allergy, so most of our meals are vegan. I am not opposed to an omelet or throwing some crumbled cheese on my salad, though.
  4. We have 2 dogs (Sidney and Bentley) and a pet mouse (Leia).
  5. I L-O-V-E Star Wars!!!
  6. I have 6 tattoos.
  7. I am an IKEA fanatic. For real, I have been known to make an IKEA trip for batteries.
  8. I love turtles.
  9. I have aspirations to own a yoga studio one day.
  10. Or a bakery in California.
  11. My house looks like a preschool.
  12. I am most relaxed on a warm beach with my feet in the sand.
  13. Often, bugs will drop dead right in front of me. It's weird and freaks me out every time.
  14. I used to clog dance when I was little.
  15. I'm becoming crunchier by the minute. I recycle, eat veganish, use eco friendly products and do all I can in my power to save the earth.
  16. I question authority much!
  17. In real life, I don't have a filter. I used to think of it as a positive thing, as being utterly honest. My husband doesn't think the same.
  18. My favorite color is pink. Or maybe teal. Or purple. Mostly I'm fickle and my favorite color will change with my mood.
  19. I drive a minivan...
  20. I believe anything is possible.

Day 3: My Favourite Quote

About Dreaming

Jet Powered Unicorns from An Awesome Book by Dallas Clayton
Tonight we read one of our new books that the internet sent us called An Awesome Book. It's a book about dreaming. About dreaming big and dreaming loud.

In the book, which is awesomely illustrated btw, the author goes into how some people stop dreaming big and they start dreaming about furniture and phones and boring normal stuff.

That
author
was
talking
about
ME!!!

I have stopped dreaming big and my dreams now consist of boring practical things. I am the me I swore that I would never become. (I partly blame Christopher. I was never practical before I met him.)

I remember vividly the day my parents told me that one day I was going to have to grow up and do real things and have responsibility and respect and blah blah blah... My reply was something to the effect of, "Never! Why would I want to grow up and be boring and grumpy?"

This is the part where I say that my 18 year old self would totally kick my ass right now.

What has happened to me that has worn me down to the point where my aspirations involve paying for groceries? My goal of the week this week is cleaning out a closet. A freaking closet. Last night I had dreams of cooking eggs and regular old pancakes. I daydream about a bra that fits properly.

Dammit. I've grown up.

But it's okay. The first part in fixing a problem is admitting you have a problem. And I hear that's the hardest part, so I've got a head start already.

Thank you, Awesome Book. I am inspired to start dreaming bigger and then 50 times bigger than that and waaayyyy louder. ( And my kids really loved this book, too. They really loved the detailed illustrations. )

Have you read any inspiring children's books lately? You can find An Awesome Book here or at your local library.

Sweet Dreams!

p.s. Click here to read a book my 6 year old Roxy wrote (on her own) about fairies. Enjoy!

A Present from the Internet

Today we received an awesome thing. It was a present from 'the internet'.

Inside the heavy, brown box were lots and lots of beautiful, colorful, new smelling books. Talk about an awesome mail day.

Why would the internet send us a box full of books, you ask? A few weeks ago, my husband the Redditor posted this. Go ahead, click on it... I'll wait....

I learned that day that Reddit is a crazy beast. A true cross section of the people of the world. There were funny comments, off the wall comments, some question as to whether or not Zoie was Hindu, but most importantly A LOT of encouraging comments.

One of those kind people sent my husband a private message saying that she worked for a publishing company of one of those books my children were reading. She said she'd like to send my kids a box of books! The best part? She did!!! And so here we are.

This is a big deal. A generous gift that will be treasured and has restored some of my faith in humanity.

Thank you, Internet. Our family is truly grateful for this wonderful gift. xo

p.s. On an unrelated note, my husband did the dishes tonight with a mouse on his shoulder.
